my mom bought this for griffey. how fitting. 


as i post this, tim is trying to stop her from eating the chips and dip from the coffee table. he is losing the fight... oh, now he is picking them up and bringing them to the kitchen.

finally carved one of my pumpkins.


i cannot take credit for the idea. it's almost exactly like the picture i saw.


however, i will take credit for how awesome it looks.

went to another family party. and although some of my followers would like to see something else... jim... i couldn't help but post this picture.


like the title says. this smile is priceless.

day forty five:


i saw this little guy sitting in my driveway. and i thought, "that is the biggest grasshopper i have ever seen." 


i put a penny next to him so you can get an idea of how big he is... 


at first i thought he was fake. so i poked him. he moved a little, but didn't jump away. i think he's like lennie from of mice and men, big and slow. and by slow i mean dumb.


then i decided to name him jiminy. and i know that jiminy is a cricket, however, i think that jiminy cricket looks more like a grasshopper.

day forty four:


i teach fahrenheit 451. which, for those that don't know, is a book about what life would be like if we were not allowed to own/read books.


however, this idea of banning books did not come from the government... it came from the people. with the rise of technology, people put books aside and embraced technology.


so, ironically, my post today is a shot of my computer. as much as i love books (as seen from earlier posts) i can't imagine life without a computer.


i just hope that in our future, we do not forget our love of books.


so every once in a while, close your computer, turn off the tv, and open a book. 
and i mean a real book, not a kindle or a nook or an ipad. a real live book.

what a world

day forty three:

tim saved this globe from the trash at his school. i love it. it's a little beat up, but then again, that's  kinda what our world really looks like. not perfect, but still beautiful. 


ok. i'm a loser. you can say it. "it's just an old globe. stop getting all metaphorical on us."


and my response to that remark is, "that's who i am. so there."

day forty two:


last winter we had a little problem with the heat. first it was broken... and for those of you that visited then, you know it was freezing in here!


then we fixed the heat, but realized just how expensive it is to have propane heat.


so this year, we are going to burn wood in the new wood stove.


this is a shot of my hope for a warm, inexpensive, winter.

this candle was given to me at my bridal shower. it was made by my aunt linda. i walked by it today and thought to myself... 


"i really like this little guy. he is cute. i will take a picture of him for my blog". 


i am not sure why inanimate objects are always male... at least in my head they are. maybe julia is the only one who will understand this concept.

went on a hayride/ pumpkin picking/ animal feeding/ ice cream eating/ bonfire extravaganza tonight.


ate one s'more, for those who are counting.


and had a blast hanging out with old friends and new friends :)

pep rally

today we had our pep rally at school. it was really awesome. 


over 2,000 students in the gym. drum line. dance crew. cheerleaders. sports lineups. class contests.


i was asked to take pictures of the event. overall a great success. here's one of my favorite shots.

stopped by the park today.


this is where my parents met. well it was frozen at the time of year when they met, so it didn't quite look like this...

these swans came right over when i was taking pictures. i thought they were so pretty. then i realized that they were a little closer than i felt comfortable with... swans can be mean!! so i literally ran back to my car!

my awesome husband found this chest on craig's list for just $20! what an awesome deal! how boring is my life that i am super excited about this?!

i know you are all sick of the dog... well maybe not all of you... 


but here's the problem, i don't have any willing models living in my house. and sometimes i'm too busy to get out and take pictures of awesome things! 


what you are all probably realizing is that my life is not as interesting as you all once thought it was. in fact it's kinda ordinary. 


like tonight, i went to costco and stop & shop. nothing there to take pictures of. 


so my apologies, but this dog was the most interesting thing about my day. and the bone sticking out of her mouth makes me giggle.

more with black and white. unfortunately, my trial version of photoshop expired. i tried using the editing tools in my iphoto, but they stink compared to photoshop. oh well. i will have to make do for now.

day thirty three:


tonight we had a capture the flag/ bonfire night with the youth group. first we had the fire. with s'mores. then we played capture the flag... 


we should have done it the other way around, because after the s'mores i was in no condition to run. and i only had one... ok one and a half.


actually, to be honest, i don't think the s'mores had anything to do with my sad performance. i think i'm just getting old. hahahaha.

when i was in college i made a quilt. i don't know why... i don't know what gave me the idea, but i made one. and i love it. 


it has been through a lot and is now beginning to fall apart. 

but i still love it.

thanks to the terrible christopher columbus for claiming to have discovered america and resulting in me having the day off of work.

nonetheless, it was a beautiful day to go pumpkin picking. 

and as a side note, i didn't edit these photos at all because the colors are so wonderful just the way they are.

love and marriage

day twenty seven:


yesterday was my one year wedding anniversary. i didn't post anything about it then, but i thought that today i would try and take a couple of shots that represent love and marriage.




so this first one is of one of our wedding gifts. "love".








and this second one is of a teacup that tim's (and now my) grandmother gave to me. "marriage".


one day when we were visiting, she told me to pick out four teacups from her collection. she said she was giving all the granddaughters four teacups each. i felt honored that she considered me one of her granddaughters. thanks grandma.

so i know i'm late... however, i have not gone to bed yet, so technically the day is not over.


today we spent the day at laker lane farm visiting friends.

it's been almost a year since i got married. and one of the awesome things about being married is that it doubled my book collection. 


i know to some of you that may sound stupid, but i love books. 


some day, when i am rich, i will have a library. a room with built-in book shelves and a ladder. you know, the kind that's hooked to the shelves, and has wheels. 


but until then, i will enjoy my over crowded bookshelf. 

(and no, this is not all the books we have, but it's the only bookshelf we have)

i love music. i love to sing, i love to listen, i love to play. 


but sometimes life gets in the way...


so, i decided to take a picture of my guitar. and if you take a guitar out of its case, you have to play a song. it's like, if you give a mouse a cookie. 


i haven't played it in a while, and it was really out of tune, but i played a song for griffey anyways. and we both agree, i should play more often :)
